That's right, you read the title correctly! Daughter-san has a driving permit...and she's been behind the wheel now for about two weeks!
In that time we've been letting her drive the Subaru and the Truck around the back roads near our house. I even got her on Highway 41 and freeway speeds!! WOO HOO!! So far she's doing pretty well...only one really good scare and that was the over-correction after a left hand turn at too high a speed...thought for a moment we were going to end up in a field and came with in a couple feet of taking out someone's trash cans.
She had her first session with my baby (AKA the Honda) which is a manual transmission. (we had to find a suitably empty parking lot with little to no traffic). bWe spent about forty five minutes practicing starts and stops, square corners and such so she can get used to getting the car rolling and coordination of her feet.
I'm quite proud of her, she only stalled it five or six times in the session and I can honestly say that is way better than what I did when I first learned to drive a clutch!
So congratulate me, my insurance is about to go up....well it will after six months or when she gets her actual license, which ever comes first...
Just kidding kiddo...my mom had to do it for me too!

Just to keep you all apprised...Taylor has been thrown some challenges in the last few days...the biggest was her father taking a turn at instructing her on driving...it reminded me WAY too much of the one time my Dad tried to teach me how to drive. I backed into the neighbor's Ford....LOL...well it's funny now it wasn't funny at the time. She managed to get us home, but I could just tell she was twice as stressed as normal.
The day before yesterday she gave me a few white hairs on our trip back from Hanford on the freeway...darn those interchanges!! The way out was way smooth, it was driving back that nearly got us into trouble, and I think I may have just left her behind the wheel a smidge too long...
I gave her the chance for redemption today when I had her drive us to her Academic Decathlon Meeting. It gave her some of the same practice as our trip up, and a few more items that she's not had to deal with before (like turning a corner off a highway!). Today's session went VERY well...and I'm planning on putting her back behind "Seraphim's" wheel and give her her second lesson on a clutch.

I can totally identify w/ stressing out with Dad as the driving teacher. The one and only time I yelled at my father as a teenager was during a driving lesson. Mom was way more patient.

I still remember my first months driving.
My mom continued the family tradition of being near a nervous breakdown with me on the wheel. She was constantly screaming, grabbing door handle, putting a hand in front of her eyes, all of that without telling me what I was actually doing wrong. >_<;;; That was after she told me her dad used to do the exact same thing and she wouldn't do something this evil to me. *snicker*
First day I got my temp permit, we went driving 2 hours away from our house, a lot of highway, small cities, far from the main metropolis. I drove back and forth. After the few 4-5 hours of driving, I was _really_ tired, but happy. To that day, I still love driving and don't mind at all very long trips. TnR can attest to that.
Took a few months to smooth out the rough edges. Still driving cautiously. But no matter, i still had 2-3 bumps and bruises, 2 bad car crashes and one total, 1 speed ticket, and half-dozen parking tickets (city taxes as I call them). In nearly (calculating) 300-400K miles, I think it's not too bad.
